We have just published a new animation that explains Systems Oriented Design (SOD) to a broad audience. Patr (Bing) Leelarasamee created the video during the 2025 studio course Systems Oriented Design – Design for Very Complex Systems at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO).
The video gives a quick, clear introduction to SOD. It’s ideal for sharing with colleagues, collaborators, or students who are new to the field.
Bing uses visualisation and storytelling to break down the complexity of SOD in a way that feels approachable and engaging. The animation shows how a designerly approach can help people make sense of complex situations and act with more awareness.
Students in the course were asked to explain two things: what is SOD, and why might it be useful for people and society? Bing chose to respond through animation.
She made the video while on exchange at AHO from the International Program in Design and Architecture at Chulalongkorn University.
